Construction
All Avocado Green mattresses are made to order using natural and organic materials. The standard mattress measures 80″ x 60″ x 11″ and weighs about 97 lbs. The pillow top model measures 80″ x 60″ x 13″ and weighs approximately 132 lbs. Actual sizes can vary slightly because each mattress is built by hand.
Button-Tufted By Hand
The first thing you’ll notice about the Avocado Green Mattress is its cover. The Button-Tufted design has a soft hand and classic appearance. Hand tufting the yarn secures each layer of the mattress without glues. The result is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. Eliminating glues makes for a more responsive feel. Natural silica is also added to the cover to enhance flame resistance. Silica is a natural material found in mineral quartz and sandstone and is FDA approved for safety. The combination of natural wool and silica far exceeds federal fire safety standards. No dangerous chemical fire retardants are used. Natural Dunlop Latex
Avocado’s natural Dunlop latex is certified by the eco-INSTITUTE of Germany. The institute declares this bed to be free of volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). It is, however, tested for chemical emissions and purity. There is no difference in structural integrity or comfort between the two materials. Because memory foam responds to body heat, it tends to sleep on the hot side. While all foams retain a certain amount of body heat, natural latex sleeps significantly cooler than synthetic foams. The memory foam is made from petroleum products. Natural latex is produced from the sap of the rubber tree. It provides the most non-toxic, natural sleep surface available.

Sleeping on your back
Depending on your physical size or pressure sensitivities, either mattress may work for a back sleeper. A heavier person will sink in deeper into the mattress than a more petite individual. In which case, the standard may be the better choice. A smaller body type may receive a bit more pressure relief with the pillow top.
The goal is to maintain proper alignment with just enough conformity for pressure relief. That said, no one’s body is perfectly flat. Latex foam will not have as much contouring attributes as memory foam. The standard is relatively firm and maybe “too” firm for a more petite sleeper who will not be absorbed as far into this mattress. Avocado Green Mattress Unboxing and Setup
Both the standard and pillow-top mattresses are quite heavy. Although one person can do the assembly by themselves, it’s much easier with a second set of hands. Once the mattress has been moved to the bedroom, remove it from the box and lay it on your foundation. Then carefully break the plastic seal; being cautious not to damage the fabric. Once the vacuum seal is broken, you will hear the sound of air passing quickly into your mattress. It will expand rapidly but still need time to decompress and aerate.
