Construction

The Cover – Zenhaven’s cover is a combination of organic cotton and 100% Joma Wool. The cotton provides a soft, breathable sleep surface that’s cool and comfortable. Joma Wool is a natural heat regulator that draws heat away from your body while you sleep. This same quality cover is on both sides of the mattress. It’s an added feature that assures consistency, regardless of comfort preference.

Although rare, there is a small percentage of the population that have wool allergies.
The certified organic wool in the Zenhaven mattress is free of the allergen, Lanolin. Lanolin is a natural grease in wool that once removed, makes the Zenhaven mattress safe for use.

Top Layer – The top layer consists of a 1.5″ of Talalay latex. This layer is constructed with a 5 zone comfort layer that provides support where you need it most. This layer acts is the top of the plush side of the mattress.

Second Layer – This 3″ layer of Talalay latex is designed for support and pressure relief. The addition of this layer allows for more body hug and conformity.

Third layer – The third 3″ layer of Talalay latex is a bit firmer and serves a dual purpose. It acts as a transition from the softer first two layers when the top layer (plush side) is facing up. When the bottom (firm side) is up, this layer adds additional structure and support.

Fourth layer – The fourth layer serves as the top of the firm side. This layer adds 1.5″ more of firmer Talalay latex that offers less body hug and softness. It also acts as the base for the plush side.

Why Talalay Latex?

Talalay vs. Dunlop is a much talked about and debated topic. Both natural Dunlop and natural Talalay start by mixing rubber tree sap in a centrifuge. The Dunlop process allows natural sediments to settle before being baked. This results in individual layers having various firmness levels. The Talalay process begins the same way, but after the sap is mixed, it is vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen before being baked. This stabilizes the cell structure and ensures better consistency of the foam. Talalay is slightly softer than Dunlop. It also has a bit more bounce and responsive feel.

Although “natural” latex starts with 100% natural rubber tree sap, no final latex product is 100% natural. A small percentage of chemical additives are included in the mix to aid in the vulcanization process. A mattress must contain no more than 5% of these compounds to be considered “natural”. Zenhaven qualifies as a natural latex mattress.

20 Year Non-Prorated Warranty: Zenhaven's warranty is very customer friendly but does come with a few stipulations: The first two years: Saatva will replace your Zenhaven mattress at no charge if deemed defective. This procedure starts with a phone conversation with one of Zenhaven's service staff. Typically, photos are requested to verify your claim. Once your mattress has been determined to be defective, A full exchange will be done at no additional charge. Years 3 - 15: Saatva will repair and re-cover your Zenhaven Mattress. A $99 fee will be charged (each way) for shipping with no other fees applied. Turnaround time is roughly 7 - 15 days. This fee remains the same throughout the remainder of your warranty period. Based on current industry practices, we feel this charge is reasonable. The issue for some, however, may be a period of time without a mattress. Not everyone has a spare guest bed. For those that cannot be without a mattress for this long a time, the "Fairness Replacement Option" might be the right solution. Fairness Replacement Option: This is where Zenhaven by Saatva separates itself from the competition. When using the "Fairness Option", you get to keep your original mattress. In years 3 - 5, your mattress will be replaced for 30% of its original value. In years 6 - 10, it will be replaced for 50% of its original value. In years 11 - 20, that percentage goes to 75%. Delivery is free, and no other charges are applied. This program is a supplement to the standard warranty and takes place at the customer's discretion. This allowance is made instead of repair of your mattress; not in addition to repair.

No one mattress will accommodate everyone’s comfort needs. But, by offering a flippable mattress with a dual comfort story, Zenahven will have most comfort preferences covered. A luxury plush side for those who like a softer feel, and a gentle firm side for sleepers who prefer a little more robust firmness level.

On your back…

Most back sleepers require a firm to moderate feel. The idea is to stay in proper alignment but still have decent pressure relief. Even on your back, your body is not flat. While most dedicated back sleepers will gravitate towards the Gentle Firm side, personal preferences may vary. A smaller body type, or someone with more pressure sensitivity, may prefer the Luxury Plush side.

On your side…

Again, it comes down to personal preference. That said most, but not all side sleepers will do well with the Luxury Plush. This feel offers contouring comfort that conforms to the shoulders and hips and relieves pressure points. Of course, if this side is too soft, you can always flip to the Gentle Firm.

On your stomach…

Stomach sleepers will typically require a firmer mattress. It’s important not to allow your back to dip too deep and cause lumbar pain. With this in mind, we recommend starting with the Gentle Firm side. Smaller individuals will not sink as deeply into the mattress and may appreciate the Luxury Plush. Of course, the Zenhaven mattress gives you the luxury and versatility of both options.
